Freeze split series with Whalers, gear up for 3 game homestand against Whalers & North Stars

The La Crosse Freeze took the first game of their home and away series with the Wisconsin Whalers this past Friday, 4-3.  Forward Lukas Motloch was a key contributor for the Freeze, scoring twice in the third period to put the game away.  Young goaltender Jacob Silverstein was a stalwart in goal, saving 38 of 41 shots.

Saturday’s trip to Oregon, WI featured a thrilling, yet disappointing finish for the Freeze, as they fell to their Wisconsin rivals 4-3 in overtime.  Forward Matt Resch provided the game winning goal for his team, scoring three and a half minutes into the extra period.  Despite the loss, the Freeze still hold second place in the Central Division, two points ahead of Wisconsin.

The La Crosse Freeze return home to the familiar confines of Green Island Ice Arena this weekend, as they welcome a familiar foe, the Wisconsin Whalers.  Friday will mark the third meeting between the two teams in a week, as the two clubs look to battle it out for second place in the division.  Puck Drop for Friday’s game is scheduled for 7 pm.

The Freeze will also play host to the Breezy Point North Stars this Saturday and Sunday.  La Crosse will be looking for revenge after their previous road trip to Breezy Point resulted in a sweep.  Forward Sam Dabrowski leads the way for La Crosse.  The 18 year-old is responsible for 25 points in just 21 games this season.  Game time for Saturday’s contest is slated for 7 pm.  Puck Drop for Sunday’s game will be at noon.
