La Crosse uses shootout to best Rochester, 1-0 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as La Crosse defeated Rochester in a shootout 1-0 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

Will Graves spearheaded the defensive effort for La Crosse, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 27 saves for the shutout. Graves managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.74 prior to the game.

La Crosse excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. La Crosse was held below its usual level of production. La Crosse averages 3.6 goals per game. La Crosse\’s defensive play was more effective than usual against Rochester. La Crosse averages 2.3 goals allowed per game. La Crosse\’s offense rang up 52 shots on Rochester\’s net. La Crosse was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 32 penalty minutes.

Rochester\’s penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on nine La Crosse power plays. Rochester could not produce up to its normal offensive output. Rochester\’s Zach Mains stopped 51 shots out of the 51 that he faced. Rochester ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Colin Hass was ejected from the game.
