Weekend Recap: Freeze Sweep Weekend Behind Great Goaltending

La Crosse Freeze 4, Wisconsin Whalers 1

The Freeze knew they were coming into a big contest against the Wisconsin Whalers on Saturday afternoon with the Whalers trailing by just a few points in the NA3HL Central division standings.

Ben Henderson (JP Eykyn, Daylon De Souza) got the scoring started for both teams at the 11:42 mark in the first period.  Jared Bromberg (Hunter Dolan, Brady Thiering) made it 2-0 early in the second but the Whalers closed the gap to 2-1 heading into the 2nd intermission.

The 3rd period was all Freeze from the start with Henderson (Dylan Goggin, Jared Bromberg) scoring his second of the afternoon on a power play only :36 seconds into the period.  Taylor Trapp put the final nail in the coffin with an empty net, power-play goal in the final minute to make the final score 4-1, Freeze.

Andrew Wagner got the call for the Freeze and stopped 37/38 shots for his 10th win – 3rd straight – of the season.

La Crosse Freeze 1, Rochester Ice Hawks 0

Sunday afternoons contest against the Rochester Ice Hawks consisted of great goaltending on both sides and 16 total power plays between both teams all in which neither team converted.

Ice Hawks goalie Zach Mains was unbeatable until Daniel Toycen came out to go 1-on-1 in the third round of the shootout.  Toycen converted to give the Freeze the 1-0 win on an afternoon that La Crosse put 51 total shots on the opposition.  Will Graves was given the nod in net and stuffed all 27 shots he faced.

The Freeze are taking to the road this weekend as the team travels to take on the Chicago Jr. Bulldogs on Friday and Saturday.
