It was a tough weekend for the La Crosse Freeze after they fell to the North Iowa Bulls Friday night in Mason City, IA and Sunday afternoon to the Wisconsin Whalers at home in La Crosse, WI.
Friday nights game against the Bulls – currently seeded first place in the Central Division – saw the Freeze get behind early after multiple penalties gave the Bulls multiple power play chances in the first. The score at the end of one was 3-1 and North Iowa didn't look back, finishing 7-1. Daniel Toycen scored the lone goal for the Freeze and Andrew Wagner faced 32 shots through the night.
Sundays contest was a game about the men between the pipes. Max McConnell of Wisconsin saved 29/30 shots on the day and Will Graves of La Crosse saved 36/38. Mick Nisbet scored the first goal of the game and the only one for the Freeze in the first half of the second period. Wisconsins Thomas Hanson scored a power-play goal in the second to tie the game at 1-1 and Peter Henderson scored the game-winning goal just 4:02 into the third.
The Freeze will look to get their revenge on the Whalers on Wednesday night. They're off to take on the Minnesota Flying Aces in a weekend series Friday and Saturday night. All three games will be played on the road.
