The La Crosse Freeze edged out a 6-5 victory over the Wisconsin Whalers in OT last Thursday night. Forward JP Eykyn led the way for the Freeze scoring two goals, one of which being the game winner in OT with under 30 seconds remaining. Eykyn also tallied two assists in the comeback victory that put the Freeze at 4-1 on the season.
Sixteen year old goalie Jacob Silverstein was credited with the win for the Freeze after saving 26-of-31 shots in 64+ minutes of gameplay. The victory was Silverstein’s second of the season.
The Freeze (4-1) and the New Ulm Steel (1-3) will play a home and home series this Friday and Saturday. The Freeze will travel to New Ulm on Friday to take on the Steel and play host to them Saturday. Although the Steel have just one win on the season, their combined three losses are just by a combined six goals. The Freeze will look to keep the late-game heroics going this weekend and improve on their quick start to the season. Puck drop for Friday is 7:10 p.m. at the New Ulm Civic Center in New Ulm, MN. Gametime for Saturday’s contest is 7 p.m. at the Green Island Ice Arena in La Crosse, WI.
