Clayton Lackey and Laudon Poellinger had big nights with 4 points (4 goals, 0 assists) and 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists) respectively as the La Crosse Freeze crushed the Wisconsin Whalers 9-1 in a home game at Green Island Ice Arena in La Crosse. As well, the La Crosse Freeze's offense had a big night, peppering Wisconsin with 48 shots throughout the game. The La Crosse Freeze took the lead before the halfway point in the first on a goal from Clayton Lackey and never looked back.
Thomas Magnavite contributed with 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) and Jacob Garman did his part, adding 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists).
In the first period, Lackey opened the scoring for the Freeze with a goal at 5:10 with helpers from his teammates Poellinger and Marquardt. Lackey put in what turned out to be the game winning goal at 13:54 with a helper from defenseman Marquardt.
In the second, Magnavite netted a goal at 2:20 with assists from his linemates, Ratzloff and Garman. Lackey scored a goal at 4:37 with assists from Poellinger and Losen. Lackey deposited a goal at 11:10 with helpers from his linemates, Francois and Poellinger. Hanson quickly followed with a goal at 12:10 with assists from Hefty and Cross. De Schepper answered for the Freeze with a goal at 14:36 with a helper from Lindauer.
In the third, Poellinger scored a goal at 9:00 with assists from Marquardt and Fondadouze. Magnavite deposited a goal at 13:29 with helpers from Garman and Caplis. Garman put in a goal at 19:30 with assists from his linemates, Magnavite and Ratzloff.
La Crosse’s victory was in no doubt helped out by Graves as he stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced. Graves’ counterpart, Earls, also had a big night, managing to stop 17 of 21, but ultimately fell short.
This win brings the La Crosse Freeze’s record to (28-8-1-0).
