Clayton Lackey did his part, adding 2 goals and Brandon Ratzloff contributed with 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist). Nick Rogers had a productive game with 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) and Luke Hefty delivered for his team with 2 assists.
In the first period, Rogers opened the scoring for the Whalers with a goal at 4:10 with a helper from defenseman Hefty. Magnavite quickly followed with a goal at 4:36 with helpers from teammates Ratzloff and Caplis. Lackey quickly followed with a goal at 5:00 with assists from Poellinger and Marquardt. Ratzloff deposited a goal at 11:37 with helpers from his linemates, Magnavite and Seeger.
In the second period, Hanson answered for Wisconsin with a goal at 11:32 with assists from Hefty and Rogers. Lackey answered for the Freeze with a goal at 18:17.
During the third, Garman scored what turned out to be the game winning goal at 7:07 with a helper from his linemate Fondadouze. Vandervalk answered for the Whalers with a goal at 11:42. Rogers deposited a goal at 14:25 with assists from his linemates, Grobstick and Mcdermott.
La Crosse’s victory was in no doubt helped out by Graves’ big night as he stopped 34 of the 38 shots he faced. Graves’ counterpart, Earls, also had a big night, managing to stop 46 of 51, but ultimately fell short.
