La Crosse Freeze 6, Alexandria Blizzard 5
The La Crosse Freeze began their second weekend of the season this past Saturday evening at home. This time they’d be facing a out-of-division opponent, the Alexandria Blizzard of the West Division.
The Blizzard came out firing on La Crosse’s Andrew Wagner. The Freeze found themselves down 0-3 early in the first period but stormed back off of goals from Adam Hazlett (Toon De Schepper, Hunter Dolan) and Kadin Machusak (Dolan, Sam Dabrowski) to make it 2-3 before the start of the 2nd period.
The two teams flip flopped roles in the second with the Freeze putting up three goals and the Blizzard two. Dolan (Dabrowski, Machusak), Patrick Gazich, and Kevin Bryant (Machusak, Gazich) all scored for the Freeze as the two teams entered the 3rd period tied at five.
La Crosse’s Tyler Briley (Danny Toycen, J.P. Eykyn) wasted no time in the final frame, putting the Freeze in the lead after Alexandria was sent to the box on a tripping minor.
Jacob Silverstein stepped in net after the Freeze fell 0-3 and held his own in his first career junior hockey action, saving 30/32 shots on his way to the win.
